2012 Summer Olympics: New Developments and Travel Tips

With the Olympic Torch Relay in its 6th week, opening ceremony rehearsals nearing perfection, and athletes closing in on their final workouts, the 2012 Summer Olympics in London are approaching quickly and should be nothing short of historic. Scheduled to begin on July 27, 2012, the two largest developments for this year's Olympics include new venue construction and an unsurpassed budget for an opening ceremony. Let's take a look at these new developments for the 2012 Summer Olympics and how the experts at Private Flight Advisors can help deliver you a seamless trip for an unforgettable experience.

Venue Developments

Most of the developments for the 2012 Olympic Games are centered around the 500-acre Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. What was once an industrial land in 2005 has been rapidly transformed over the last few years into green space providing long term improvements to the country's landscape and economy. Here are some of the other top new venues that will crown the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park:

The Olympic Stadium will host the four spectacular Opening and Closing Ceremonies at London 2012, as well as track and field events. The Stadium is surrounded by waterways on three sides and spectators will reach the venue via five bridges that link the site to the surrounding area.

Designed by Zaha Hadid in 2004, the breathtaking Aquatics Center is one of the permanent venues specially constructed for London 2012 and will host the swimming and diving events. It is located in the southern side of the Olympic Park in Stratford in East London, and will also serve as the main entrance to the games.

The Basketball Arena is the largest venue ever built for an Olympics with the intention of being taken down. This arena will also be one of the most heavily-used venues in the Olympics with competition events taking place almost every day. Plans for the arena are to be reused in a future Olympics or relocated elsewhere in the country.

Ceremonies

Although Beijing's impressive $100 million-plus opening ceremony for the 2008 Olympics will be hard to top, in December when Prime Minister David Cameron raised the budget to $130 million, new casting calls went out almost immediately. Danny Boyle, choreographer of Slumdog Millionaire, soon became the Artistic Director of the ceremonies with plans to transform the Olympic Stadium into one of the largest sets ever built.

Upon entry to the Olympic Stadium, the audience will see a scene that represents a traditional and picturesque view of the British countryside. The set will be complete with meadows, fields and rivers, and will feature families taking picnics, sports being played on the village green and farmers tilling the soil in farmyards. Danny is promising over 10,000 performers including dancers, drummers, acrobats, skateboarders, nurses and imitators of historical importance to British.

The Red Arrows, a synchronized stunt-jet team usually reserved for the royal family, will take part, as well as the Queen herself. The Closing Ceremonies will also feature an A-list of musical acts including The Rolling Stones, Coldplay, Elton John and Paul McCartney. The 2012 Olympic Ceremonies promise to be extraordinary- just imagine the feeling of the torch entering the Olympic Park Stadium in person, before witnessing the finest athletes on Earth compete for the gold in 36 events.

Travel Tips

If you are booking a private jet to the 2012 Olympic Games in London, our most critical piece of advice would be to not wait until the last minute. With 500,000 visitors arriving by air, including 10,000 private aviation flights, both Britain's commercial and private airports will be pushed to their breaking points. Only July 14th, the UK government will impose major airspace restrictions and the military will begin controlling the skies over London, banning all unapproved air travel. To protect the controlled airspace from overcrowding, aircraft arriving into or departing from the 35 airports must reserve an airspace "slot allocation" with the Airport Coordination Limited (ACL). Another thing to bear in mind is that with 800,000 spectators who will need transportation, there will be no spectator parking at any London 2012 venue, with a strong focus on public transportation- including river services.

Hundreds of thousands will be coming into London for the 2012 Olympic Games next month, but only some will be flying with the highest level of comfort and service on a private jet. With Opening Ceremonies taking place on July 27th, there is still time to book the perfect private jet charter. Non-stop travel over the Atlantic requires an aircraft with appropriate range, and we suggest the Embraer Legacy for an extravagant experience at a cost-efficient price, and the Gulfstream G550 for travelers looking for the ultimate, world-class private jet experience.

Upon arrival to your private airport, including Farnborough and London Oxford where slots are still available, our Senior Advisors will handle your luxury ground transportation to your five star hotel. From there, we can coordinate your private travel to the specific park-and-ride locations outside the Olympic Games, to some intimate dining establishments, or to some non-sporting events including the production of Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" to a Warner Brothers' studio tour of "The Making of Harry Potter". We look forward to assisting you with your private jet charter needs, including your once-in-a lifetime experience to the historic 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London. For more information on getting to the Olympics on a private jet, and also getting tickets to the events before your arrival please call us today at (877) 732 - 9963.

The Evolution of the HondaJet

The highly anticipated very light HondaJet has been in the development stages for 26 years, continuously evolving to offer superior quality and to exceed FAA safety standards. 26 years may be a long time for no actual aircraft deliveries compared to other manufacturing start-ups, but Honda Aircraft Company has always enjoyed one strong advantage- the financial support and engineering expertise of the one of the world's largest automobile companies. Let’s take a look at the evolution of the HondaJet.

The earliest stages of Honda’s first business aircraft began in 1986 when a young Honda engineer named Michimasa Fujino joined Honda’s R&D division and began studying small sized business jets using engines from other manufacturers. He gained invaluable experience, sanding molds and building composite parts by hand on his first formation, the MH-01- A Beechcraft Bonanza accessorized with a composite wing and tail. This single-engine, turbo-prop plane lead to Fujino’s design of the MH-02, an all composite business jet completed in the early 1990’s. At this time, Fujino reports his work represented only “fundamental research programs…with no intention for commercialization.”

In 1997, with financial backing from Honda Motor Co., Fujino drafted a first sketch of the HondaJet and soon began the research and design to develop this idea into a reality. For the next 6 years Fujino oversaw the manufacturing of the first HondaJet meanwhile studying the physics of the design and implementing to offer superior performance, efficiency and quality. Fujino developed many aircraft innovations still used today: His over the wing engine-mount-configuration improved the aerodynamic performance of the jet at high speeds and allowed for more cabin space; the natural-laminar flow (NLF) of the wing and nose were developed through extensive analyses of wind-tunnel testing and helped achieve the highest possible wing efficiency in cruise flight; And, his all-composite fuselage structure was developed to reduce the weight and manufacturing costs of the HondaJet.
On December 16, 2003 Honda Motor Co., Ltd. announced that the HondaJet, equipped with Honda HF118 engines successfully completed initial flight tests at Piedmont Triad Airport in North Carolina, a significant milestone for the company and the industry. Following three more years of safety and quality improvements to the HondaJet, on July 25, 2006, Honda announced plans to enter the HondaJet into the growing very light jet market. Michimasa Fujino became the President & CEO of the new subsidiary, Honda Aircraft Company, and soon began the process of accepting HondaJet sales orders, pending FAA certification in 3-4 years.
Just a few months after the announcement of accepting sales orders, the Honda Aircraft Company took the next major step toward delivering the HondaJet into the hands of its customers, by breaking ground for its new 369,000 square foot $100 million headquarters and manufacturing facility at Piedmont Triad International airport in Greensboro, NC. This facility was also supposed to take 3-4 years to complete, the same amount of time for the HondaJet to be FAA certified.
Since 2006, the HondaJet has undergone a total of four redesigns, all conforming to FAA standards and newer technology. On May 4th, 2012 Honda Aircraft Company announced that its fourth conforming HondaJet aircraft, referred to as "F3," successfully completed its first flight, while the FAA evaluated the takeoff and climb; landing gear operation; flap operations; aircraft handling; and its air data system checks. While the headquarters and manufacturing facility has been completed since 2011, the HondaJet is expected to be certified by the end of 2013, which will begin deliveries soon after. Honda Aircraft Company reports more than 100 firm orders for the $4.5 million very light jet. As far as the yellow color, Fujino says:
"Yellow may be unconventional for a business jet, but the HondaJet is a new generation, advanced light jet with high performance and efficiency. HondaJet represents sportiness with high efficiency, so my choice of this special yellow for F3 expresses Honda's passion for, what we call, our ‘sports car in the sky.’ ”
PrivateFlight Advisors would like to congratulate Mr. Fujino and Honda on their efforts and innovations since 1986 and are looking forward to using the HondaJet come certification next year.

New Falcon 2000S Nears Certification

Dassault’s newest aircraft, the Falcon 2000S, completed its first year of flight testing and has accumulated 300 flight hours in over 100 total flights as of April 5, 2012. This highly anticipated business jet is moving closer to its expected certification date by the end of 2012, and should be ready for service by the beginning of 2013.

Since the Falcon 2000’s debut by Dassault in 1996, this series of jets has taken on several advancements in technology and features while hovering in a niche between a super mid size and heavy business jet. The release of the 2000EX in 2004 and the 2000DX in 2007 featured enhanced avionics, better cabin pressurization systems and an updated EASy digital cockpit. When the 2000LX was unveiled in 2009, this model pushed the series into a true heavy jet category, at over $30 million in price with over 4,000 miles in range.

Compared to the previous 2000LX model, the new 2000S has a shorter range of 3,350 miles and is priced cheaper at $25 million, but it is far from just a smaller version. This new jet offers much improved fuel economy, operating costs that are much less than smaller mid size aircrafts, and access to airports not previously available due to its lighter weight and inboard wing slats that allow it to fly into steeper runways.  The Pratt & Whitney engines feature new combustors that cut emissions by 40%, and the BMW Group Designworks USA developed a highly creative interior which features lighting and color contrasts which give the illusion the cabin is even larger than it is.

The first part of the testing for this super mid size business jet incorporated numerous handling qualities and failure mode tests, including takeoff with engine failure. In later phases of the certification process, engineers will test and fine-tune the aircraft's anti-ice system and authenticate the integration of EASy II, the next generation of Dassault's, prized avionics suite.

The 2000S represents a serious threat to the super mid size market with its build efficiencies, price competitiveness, and sleek design. Come FAA certification later this year, Private Flight Advisors will be prepared to source you a safe, cost-effective flight on the Falcon 2000S whether you are travelling a transatlantic flight with your family or cross-country trip with business. If you would like information on approved private jet aircrafts in our program including super mid size jets like the Falcon 2000S, please visit: http://www.flypfa.com/Items_322_Approved_Private_Jet_Charter_Aircraft.aspx

One thing to remember when booking your international trip is that all countries require some kind of advance notification of arrival. Rules vary with different countries from simply filing a flight plan to specific written notification days in advance. Private Flight Advisors will take care of all this for you, but the earlier you contact them, the less chance your plane will be routed to a secondary location, waiting to be processed by the slow hands of Customs, costing you time and delay-related expenses.

Here is a link to the FAA site regarding preparation for your international flights. It offers advice and requirements to help make your trip as seamless as possible. http://www.faa.gov/air_traffic/publications/ifim/intl_overview/

Developing and maintaing a relationship with a Jet Charter Broker is very important, and a little homework on your part will go a long way in saving money and time, and eliminating unnecessary hassles. Booking early will ensure that every detail is covered, so that you can focus your attention on your vacation.

Now is still a good time for booking with a good inventory availability, lower prices, and higher quality aircraft!

Private Jet Charter and Customs - Book Early!

Semptember is over, and Private Jet Charter is on the threshold of its busiest time of year. Now is the time to start planning your trips for the upcoming Holiday season! Save your procrastination for your holiday shopping, because right now is the best time to prepare chartering a Private Jet for your vacation. When Private Jet Aircraft inventory is high, the highest quality Private Jets are the first to get booked, and the prices are lower. As the season picks up, inventory becomes less available, and you will end up paying more for a lesser quality aircraft.

Another very important factor to consider is Customs. All countries require some kind of advance notification of arrival. For some countries, simply filing a flight plan meets this requirement, while others may require specific written notification many days before the flight. Requests should allow ample time for processing and return reply, if required. Your Jet Charter Broker will take care of all this for you, but the earlier you contact them, the less chance your plane will be routed to a secondary Customs location.

The last thing you want is to be held up in a different city, waiting to be processed by the slow hands of Customs, making you late, and paying for extra time and delay-related expenses.

Now is the time for Booking: Good availability, Lower Prices, Higher quality aircraft.
